They had banished her in the blink of an eye. It didn't matter that for a decade she had preserved the scrolls so valuable to their realm after having been found on a cottage grounds back on earth. She thought that she had been accepted, cherished even, for her contribution. She never once asked for payment in kind, acceptance was gift enough, or so she thought.

Her name wasn't Alice, it was Teresa, Teresa Walters. Mostly, known for her indifference to new people and hatred of loud environments. Her crowd had created a special birthday surprise, a woodland tea party with a hired mad hatter. Teresa arrived to find only empty seats around a table filled with food. Confused, she tried texting her friends but was unable to get reception. Her deep sigh paused as she heard a rustle from a nearby tree. Startled, she stood staring in the direction that she heard the sound.
